Desktop Engineer – Contract Opportunity (ACT) Location: Canberra, ACT (Onsite)
Contract Type: 6-Month Contract (with possible extension)
Clearance: Baseline Security Clearance required prior to commencement
Eligibility: Must be an Australian Citizen and able to obtain NV1 clearance
About the Role We are seeking an experienced Desktop Engineer to provide technical support and maintenance across the organisation’s desktop environment. The role involves managing application packaging and deployment, troubleshooting complex issues, supporting Microsoft Intune and SCCM environments, and contributing to strategic initiatives such as Windows 11 migration, endpoint analytics, and cross-platform device management.
You’ll play a key role in enhancing operational efficiency and user experience across a large enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities

• SOE Deployment & Device Provisioning
  
  • Build and deploy Windows devices using Intune and Standard Operating Environment (SOE) configurations.
  • Develop and maintain the organisation’s SOE across laptops and desktops.
  • Provision and support devices via Microsoft Intune and SCCM.
• Policy Management
  
  • Create, maintain, and enforce device configuration and compliance policies in Intune.
  • Ensure policies align with organisational security and operational standards.
• Application Packaging & Deployment
  
  • Package and deploy software, upgrades, and security updates using Intune.
  • Manage deployment rings, detection rules, and firmware updates.
• Troubleshooting & Support
  
  • Provide advanced Level 3 support for Intune-managed devices, including specialist PCs.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex ICT incidents involving authentication, networking, and policy conflicts.
• Security & Compliance
  
  • Support implementation of ACSC Essential Eight controls.
  • Manage BitLocker encryption, AppLocker/WDAC, and endpoint protection policies.
• Technical Advice & Documentation
  
  • Provide technical guidance on hardware/software procurement.
  • Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and knowledgebase articles.

• Proven recent experience in:
  
  • Microsoft 365 Apps
  • Application Packaging and Deployment (Intune/SCCM)
  • PowerShell Scripting
  • Level 3 Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution
• Strong background in endpoint management, desktop support, and policy creation.
• Experience with Windows 10/11 SOE design and deployment.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

• Minimum: Baseline security clearance (mandatory prior to commencement)
• Desirable: Ability to obtain or hold NV1 clearance
