Description of the job
We are seeking a highly skilled Fibre Splicer with demonstrated experience working on Dark Fibre networks. Based in Melbourne, this role involves end-to-end fibre splicing activities on key carrier networks such as Vocus, TPG, and other major dark fibre infrastructures. You will play a crucial role in supporting new builds, upgrades, and maintenance projects across metro and regional Victoria.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform fibre splicing, jointing, and termination on dark fibre networks (predominantly Vocus and TPG).
- Conduct testing and fault-finding using OTDR, LTS, and other fibre diagnostic equipment.
- Read and interpret fibre network plans, splicing schedules, and schematics.
- Complete fibre builds, including tray preparation, pit and pipe work, and enclosure installation.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Field Supervisors, and other technicians to meet project deadlines.
- Conduct quality assurance checks and document results in line with compliance and client requirements.
- Respond to after-hours call-outs and emergency repair work as required.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Fibre Splicer, with dark fibre project exposure.
- Proven experience splicing and testing on Vocus, TPG, or similar dark fibre networks.
- Ability to use OTDR, Power Meters, Fibre Identifiers, Fusion Splicers, and related equipment.
- Familiarity with NBN, Telstra, or carrier-grade network standards.
- Valid ACMA Open Cabling Registration with Fibre Endorsement.
- White Card (Construction Induction Card).
- Current Driver's Licence (manual preferred) and reliable transport.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing field conditions.
Desirable Qualifications:
- First Aid & CPR Certification.
- Confined Space and Working at Heights (preferred but not essential).
- Experience working with GIS systems or fibre asset management software.
- Knowledge of Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) standards in telecom environments.
