The Hydrogeology and Hydrology (H&H) Technical Discipline, hosts over 55 people, making it one of the largest technical disciplines in SLR Australia. An opportunity exists to join this team, with over 35 hydrogeologists, as a Senior Consultant based in Melbourne.
We have a strong pipeline of work and a focus on technical excellence and strong client relationships. We are an active sponsor of the International Association of Hydrogeologists and focused on investing in industry best practice for the benefit of both clients and staff. We work in a collaborative environment across our H&H teams in Brisbane, Townsville, Newcastle, Wollongong, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and closely with other SLR environmental specialists. The team delivers projects across SLR's market sectors including Mining & Minerals, Built Environment, Infrastructure, Industry and Power, with a focus on resource projects.
Your role would involve developing site hydrogeological conceptualisations, preparation of risk assessments to support project approvals, compliance reporting and a range of desk-based technical tasks. The opportunity exists to work on projects across Australia, with a wide variety of clients and project focus. Additionally, an element of field work, including supervision of groundwater bore installation, groundwater sampling and level monitoring programs, will be required.
About the role and what you need to succeed
Key skills and specialist technical areas:
- Thorough understanding and application of VIC groundwater related legislation and guidelines as applied to resource, development and infrastructure projects
- Working knowledge of other relevant National and Victorian groundwater legislation and policies, standards and guidelines
- Project experience developing hydrogeological conceptual models, and completing groundwater risk assessments
- Although not critical, experience associated with groundwater – surface water interaction and groundwater dependent ecosystem studies
- Capacity to produce complete technical work (developing proposals and reports) to a standard suitable for final review prior to client delivery
- Project management experience of routine technical projects or aspects of larger projects
- Overseeing and working collaboratively with junior staff preparing quality reports for internal and external clients on time and within set budgets
- Contributing to winning work by identifying and converting opportunities and drawing on your client relationships
- Developing, facilitating and enhancing relationships with our key clients to maintain and grow SLRs brand in the region
- Strong quality control and time management aligned with successful delivery of concurrent project scopes
- Experience undertaking basic hydrogeological field work, inclusive of water quality sampling.
To be successful in this role
Our ideal candidate will have between 5-8 year's industry experience, including experience within a consultancy group, and have:
- Appropriate Hydrogeological tertiary qualification and relevant groundwater industry experience (technical reporting and basic field hydrogeology)
- Demonstrated experience in hydrogeological reporting and varied project delivery
- Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated and ability to work effectively within a team
- Excellent communication skills and technical report writing
- Excellent analytical assessment ability, being detailed focused, while functioning under time and budget constraints
- Demonstrated experience working with and successfully mentoring junior staff and managing upwards
- Australia Citizenship or rights to work in Australia
- Excellent driving history and hold a current driver's license
